George Wins Three Events as Pride Fall to St. Andrews

GREENSBORO, N.C.---Greensboro College's Spencer George won three events for the Pride as Greensboro's swimmers fell to St. Andrews University in a Saturday afternoon meet. The men dropped their meet with the Knights, 66-32, while the women fell, 33-12.

George picked up his first victory of the afternoon in the men's 50-yard freestyle event, posting a time of 23.13 seconds, holding a near two-second advantage over St. Andrews' Jeremiah Moretz. George claimed the men's 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 50.86 seconds. Holding almost a four-second advantage through the first 50 yards, George extended his advantage by three seconds over the final 50 yards.

George rounded out his afternoon with a victory in the men's 100-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:03.02. George was in a close race with teammate Ethan Wilson, beating his fellow Pride swimmer by 1.43 seconds. George held a 1.47 second advantage over Wilson through 50 yards, but Wilson chipped away at the lead in the final 50 yards even as George surged at the last second to earn a win in a competitive heat.

Tess Purdue led the Pride women with three second-place finishes, including a close race with St. Andrews' Erica Hocum in the women's 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 35.48 seconds. Her finish was just .55 seconds behind Hocum. Perdue and Hocum engaged in a competitive 100-yard freestyle race later in the meet with Perdue posting a time of 1:27.65. Purdue trailed Hocum by 5.04 seconds and kept pace with Hocum as St. Andrews' swimmer earned the win by 7.73 seconds.

The Pride return to the Royce Reynolds Center Pool next Saturday with a tri-meet against Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Ferrum and swimming non-conference foe William Peace at 1 p.m. inside the Royce Reynolds Center Pool.
