DANVILLE, Va.---Greensboro College Men's Wrestling tallied two victories in their Wednesday evening tri-match at Averett University. The Pride dropped their regular season match to the Cougars, 43-7, while winning all three mat one matches in an exhibition against Patrick Henry Community College.

Tony Locke, Luke Waggoner, and Brandon Williams all claimed falls in the opening exhibition against Patrick Henry on the first mat, claiming victory for the Pride in the opening contest.
 
Josh Wilson earned a victory over Averett's Joseph Jones at the 133-pound class in the Pride's first win in the matchup against the Cougars. Wilson scored points off of a technical violation and two stall calls in the first period. In the latter half of the bout, Wilson added an escape and scored a a late takeout to make it 5-0. Jones earned late point in the closing stages of the bout, but Wilson held on while holding the advantage in riding time on the way to the win, 9-1, and three points by decision.

Joel Kanagy garnered a victory over Averett's Nasser McCummings in the 184-pound weight class for the Pride's second win. of the night. Kanagy opened with a two-point takedown in the center of the ring on McCummings and then earned another takedown to start the second segment as he began to amass riding time. McCummings got on the board after a lengthy stoppage, but Kanagy countered with his third takedown of the bout. Kanagy earned another two-point takedown outside of the ring and gained another point on top of the riding-time advantage on the way to a 10-1 win, earning four points.

Brandon Williams and Averett's Trent Ragland held the lengthiest match of the night in the 285-pound heavyweight class bout. Both wrestlers grappled to a draw in the first period with neither drawing a point. Both traded riding time going into the second period when Ragland scored a point on an escape. Ragland and Williams remained mostly upright for the second round as Ragland held to a 1-0 advantage. Williams opened the third round with an escape to tie the bout as neither wrestler hit the mat in the late stages of regulation, heading into overtime. Williams held his footing in the first overtime period, but Ragland got an escape in the next overtime period with Williams countering to extend the overtime period. A late second stall call on Williams put a point on the board for Ragland as he claimed a 3-2 win.

Kanagy also snagged an exhibition win at the 184-pound class over John Bishop. Williams got his revenge over Kowan Lee for Averett in the heavyweight class in individual action. Dominic Harris snagged two exhibiton wins, including one fall victory just over six minutes into the bout against James Henry.

The Pride host their lone home meets of the season Friday with two meets against Allen University, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Royce Reynolds Center Gym. No fans are permitted inside the gym for this season.
