DANVILLE, Va. -- The Greensboro College softball team dropped their final doubleheader of the season Tuesday to the Cougars of Averett University.

Game 1
The pride struggled to get their offense going, falling 8-1.

After Averett was able to establish a 6-0 lead going into the sixth inning,
Cassie Collins singled down the left field line to bring in
Cayleigh Norton. Â

Melissa Garcia,
Hanna Stackhouse, Norton and Collins each tallied one hit. Freshman
Cheyanne Cox took the loss on the mound, despite striking out seven batters over six innings.

Game 2
Averett was able to establish an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, before putting up the final two runs of the game in the sixth inning to win it 3-0.

Jasmine Worthy, Collins and Stackhouse tallied one hit each.
Maddy Wetherholt took the loss on the mound after pitching six innings and striking out three batters.
"While our season did not come to an end the way we had hoped, we learned and grew tremendously this year," Head Coach
Teresa Fister said. "A huge thank you to my staff for their hard work and dedication to this team.
"I am extremely proud of all the Seniors and their contributions and leadership. Finally, I look forward to seeing our underclassman continue to drive this program to the next level."
