GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College softball team split a USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader with Salem College Saturday.
The Pride took the first game by a 3-1 mark before dropping game two in 10 innings, 10-9.
Salem got on the board with one run in the first inning of Game 1 before Greensboro used a 2 RBI double in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead.
Greensboro then added to their lead in the sixth inning when
Mandi Ballard singled home
Kaylee Johnson before shutting down the Spirits in the seventh inning to secure the two-run victory.
Johnson,
Cassie Collins, Ballard,
Kali Puckett,
Brittainy Rush, and Crisco each had one hit each, while
Maddy Wetherholt earned the complete game victory.
The Pride then scored one run in the first, second, and third innings to take a 3-0 lead in the second game before Salem tied the game in the top half of the fourth inning.
Ballard,
Melissa Garcia, Rush each had an RBI single over the first three innings.
After Salem tied the game, Ballard recorded yet another RBI single to give the Pride a 4-3 lead.
However, Salem took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning before Crisco blasted a two-run homerun over the left-center field wall to send the game into extra innings.
The two teams then scored one run each in the eighth and ninth innings before Salem plated two runs in the 10
th inning to secure the two-run victory.
Ballard and Johnson each finished with a game-high three hits, while Garcia and Puckett had two hits each.
Hayley Tickle did not factor into the decision after pitching the first 4 2/3 innings before giving way to Wetherholt who was credited with the loss.
