DEMOREST, Ga. – The Greensboro College softball team split a pair of games Sunday to close out the Piedmont College Classic,
.-The Pride dropped Game 1 to Millsaps, 12-9, before topping the Wasps of Emory & Henry, 7-4.
"This weekend we saw continued progress and growth each game," Head Coach
Teresa Fister said. "We are looking forward to keep pushing ourselves to play at a high level as we compete this season."
Millsaps Recap
Millsaps took an early two-run lead before Greensboro exploded for five runs in the second inning. Hailey Rumley led off the inning with a double down the left field line before coming into score the Pride's first run on a
Mandi Ballard single.
Later in the inning,
Kali Puckett plated three runs with a double of her own before
Melissa Garcia tallied her first RBI of the season with a single to left field.
Greensboro then added four more runs over the next two innings to push their lead to 9-1.
Kaylee Johnson had two RBIs during the stretch after recording two hits, while
Taylor Little recorded a RBI infield single.
However, Millsaps scored the game's final 10 runs to pick up the victory.
Rumley and Puckett each had two hits, while
Brittainy Rush, Garcia, Ballard, Johnson, and Little each had one hit.
Hayley Tickle was credited with the loss after pitching a complete game.

After neither team was able to push a run across in the first 3 ½ innings, Greensboro struck for four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Madison Crisco singled to lead off the inning before coming into score on another Rumley double. Later in the inning,
Taylor Little recorded a RBI double, while
Cassie Collins recorded two RBIs with a single up the middle.
The Wasps then cut the Greensboro advantage in half with a pair of runs in the top half of the sixth inning before the Pride scored three unearned runs in the home half.
However, Emory & Henry pushed two more runs across in the seventh inning but Greensboro was able to hold them off to record their first win of the season.
Rumley and Collins each accounted for two hits, while Puckett, Little, and Crisco had one hit each. Maddy Weatherholt picked up the win after pitching five innings and striking out four batters.
The Pride softball team will return to action at 2 p.m. Wednesday when they host Randolph College in their home opener. The games will be played at Carolyn Allen Park located at 3610 Drawbridge Parkway in Greensboro, N.C. For more information on Greensboro College softball, continue to follow
