Softball Eliminated In USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Greensboro College softball team returned to action at the 2015 USA South Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. The Pride fell in their first game to the Panthers of LaGrange College, 8-1, before dropping in a heartbreaker to William Peace 10-6 in a elimination contest.

In the first game of the day, LaGrange jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning before the Pride was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. Brittany Rush singled with one out in the inning before coming in to score following a Allyson Yeagerfielder's choice.

After Greensboro tied the game, LaGrange then scored seven unanswered runs en route to the 8-1 victory.

Brittany Rush, Madison CriscoSarah Connolly, Allyson YeagerJackie Nicholson, and Sarah Tompkins combined for Greensboro's six hits in the game.

Dawn Harris (12-8) took the loss after pitching just more than three innings before Lauren Miller completed the game in relief.

In the nightcap game, Greensboro College fell behind William Peace 3-0 before coming back to take the lead at 4-3 in the bottom half of the second inning.

Greensboro got their first two runs of the inning on Pacers miscues. Jackie Nicholson and Haley Rumley came across the palate on the two errors before Madison Crisco pushed Sarah Tompkins across the dish to tie the game at 3-3 with a single to left field. Following ball four to Sarah Connolly, the ball got away from the William Peace catcher allowing Alexis Hall to scamper home to give the Pride a narrow 4-3 lead.

In their next trip to the plate Greensboro was able to add two more runs to their lead following RBIs by Brittany Rush and Alexis Hall.

Following the two third inning, the Pacers pulled back within one run at 6-5 with two runs of their own heading into the bottom half of the fourth inning of play.

Greensboro was then able to hold the one run advantage until the top half of the seventh inning and could not recover falling by a 10-6 score.

The Pride was able to record nine hits in the defeat. Jackie Nicholson, Sarah Tompkins, and Hayley Rumley each had two hits in the game while Madison Crisco, Sarah Connolly, Alexis Hall recorded one apiece.

Lauren Miller took the loss in the game despite pitching over five innings while striking out five batters.

With the pair of defeats, the Pride finishes the season with an overall record of 22-22.
