GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College Pride softball team returned to the field on Sunday afternoon to take on the Wildcats of Randolph College in a double header. Greensboro cruised to a, 15-7, win in game one before falling, 7-5, in game two.
Greensboro was able to take a quick, 6-0, lead through the first two innings of play in game one. Haley Rumley accounted for four to the first six RBIs following a pair of doubles.
After the Pride pulled out to the six run lead, Randolph was able to respond back with even runs in the top half of the third inning taking the lead 7-6.
However, Greensboro scored nine runs combined in the fifth and sixth innings of play to secure the win.
Rumley led the way with three hits in the game while Alexis Hall, Allyson Yeager, Sarah Connolly, and Kierstin McKenna accounted for two hits a piece.
Jackie Nicholson earned the win in the pitching circle in relief of starter Dawn Harris.
In the second game of the day, Greensboro found themselves trailing 7-1 heading into their final at bat of the game.
Ashlee Miller led of the seventh inning with a pinch hit homer to cut the deficit to 7-2. Later in the inning Allyson Yeager and Jackie Nicholson recorded two RBI doubles to bring Greensboro to within 7-5 but could not get any closer.
With the two game split, Greensboro moves to 11-11 on the season. The Pride will return to the field on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to take on the Spirits of Salem College. The first pitch is set for 5:00 PM.
