Women's Lacrosse Defeats Washington & Jefferson

GREENSBORO, NC- The Greensboro College women's lacrosse team defeated Washington & Jefferson, 18-7, Wednesday, March 18th.

In the first half of the game Greensboro had three separate scoring streaks. The first streak occurred within the first five minutes of the half by Natalie Ritchey and Ashlynn Parks scoring within two minutes of each other. The two other scoring streaks were three-goal streaks. The first one happened between the 23 and 18 minute marks with Kirstin Norris scoring two and Ritchey scoring one. The second streak took place in the last 10 minutes of the game (9:46 to 3:35) with Nadya Fedun scoring two and Alexa Besch scoring one. With 42 seconds left in the first half, Besch connected the ball to the back of the cage for another goal.

For the first half of the game, Norris, Besch, Ritchey, and Fedun all scored two goals apiece with Ritchey contributing one. The team left the first half with a 9-4 lead.

During the first seven of the second half Greensboro went on a five-goal scoring streak. Fedun and Amira Khatib scored two apiece and Norris scored one. At the 13 minute mark, Greensboro's Fedun scored off an assist of Kelsey Cenate. Washington & Jefferson quickly responded trying to lessen the lead to 15-6 by scoring a free position goal.

In the last four minutes of the game, The Pride found the back of the cage three more times. Norris scored off a pass from Besch, Fedun scored unassisted and the final goal came from Ritchey who took a pass from Parks.

Parks passed for three assists in the game while Ritchey passed two. Besch, Cenate, and Fedun also made one assist each. Fedun lead the team in goals scoring six followed by Norris with four and Ritchey with three. Besch and Khatib scored two apiece and Parks scored one.

Greensboro collected 16 of 26 draw controls with Norris getting six of them. The Pride took 37 shots on goal and picked up 18 ground balls. Kaleigh Hemstock received the win for Greensboro making seven saves.

For the season, The Pride are led by Norris with 25 goals and six assists for 31 points followed by Fedun with 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists).  Parks leads the team in ground balls picking up 27. Hemstock has made 39 saves in goal with 6.20 a goals against average.

The Pride travels to Sewanee, Tennessee to play Oglethorpe University on Saturday, March 21st for a face-off time of 4 p.m.
