Big First Half Lifts Pride Women To Victory Over Randolph

GREENSBORO, NC—The Greensboro College Pride women's lacrosse team defeated Randolph College, 15-6, on Friday afternoon.

The Pride got on the board just 23 seconds into the game when Nadya Fedun found the back of the net putting the Pride up 1-0. Randolph was able to tie the game at 1-1 before Greensboro ran off four straight goals to extend out to a 5-1 lead. Kirstin Norris, Amira Khatib, Alexa Besch, and Ashlynn Parks each tallied a score during the run. After Greensboro pulled out to the four goal lead, the Wildcats scored twice to pull within two, at 5-3.

The Pride was able to extend its lead to three when Khatib took a feed from Fedun putting Greensboro up 6-3. Kelsey Cenate then connected from a free position shot, putting Greensboro back on top by four at 7-3. Just halfway through the first period, Cenate was able to extend the Pride lead to five goals at 8-3. After a Randolph goal, Greensboro would add two more goals over the last four minutes of the half to take a 10-4 lead into the break.

Opening the second half, The Pride found the back of the net when Fedun scored, making it 11-4. Cenate then took a pass from Fedun and found the back of the cage for her third of the day, pushing the lead to 12-4. Randolph would tack on the next two goals cutting into the lead at 12-6, but an unassisted Parks goal gave Greensboro the 13-6 advantage. Norris then tallied a goal on an assist from Cenate making it 14-6. The final goal of the game came from Fedun on an assist by Besch to make the final score 15-6.

Greensboro College controlled the entire game, outshooting the Wildcats 26-13 while gaining 15 of the 23 draw controls in the match-up. The Pride also held a 29-11 advantage in the ground ball category with Ashlynn Parks picking up a game high nine ground balls.

"These girls are really starting to find their rhythm, and play some great lacrosse," Head Coach Rob Bickerstaff said after the game. "I've been impressed with the way they've worked hard to fix some problems from the beginning of the season, it's beginning to show, as they have just controlled some of these games lately."

With the win, The Pride are now riding a four game win streak and move to 6-3 overall on the season. Greensboro returns to action on Monday when they welcome Plymouth State. The game is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
