DEMOREST, GA—The Greensboro College Pride women's lacrosse team played their second game in two days on Sunday afternoon as they played at USA South opponent Piedmont College. The Pride dropped the matchup by a 15-10 score.
In the first half of play, the Pride got on the board fast when Kirstin Norris found the back of the net giving Greensboro the early 1-0 lead. Shortly after taking the lead, the Lions were able to tie the game at 1-1 before Kayla Gonzalez took a feed from Norris putting Greensboro back on top 2-1. Piedmont responded back from the Prides goal with four unanswered goals to pull ahead 5-2. Just over a minute later Ashlynn Parks pulled the Pride to within two goals at 5-3. But Piedmont closed out the half with five more goals taking an 11-3 lead into the half.
After the half time break, Piedmont was able to add one more goal before the Pride tallied three straight goals to pull within 12-6. Piedmont then added one more goal 20 seconds later, but Alexa Besch and Nadya Fedun brought Greeensboro to within five at 13-8. The Pride tried to get back into the game, but two late goals by Norris as not enough as Piedmont held on for the 15-10 victory.
Kirstin Norris led the way for the Pride on the day with four goals, while Nadya Fedun chipped in two of her own. Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss for the Pride in the goal despite making eight saves on the day.
With the defeat the Pride falls to 2-2 overall on the season and drops to 1-1 in USA South play. The Pride women's lacrosse team will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to cross town rival Guilford College. The first draw of the night is set for 7:00 pm.
