The Pride baseball team earned its third win in four games on Saturday, beating North Carolina Wesleyan 8-6. Greensboro raced out to an early 5-0 lead, before the Bishops rallied to even the score at 5-5. The Pride broke away in the fifth with three runs and limited Wesleyan to one run down the stretch for the win.
Steven Pfeiffer got the first inning started for Greensboro with a three run blast that scored James Feldmann and Michael Cobb. The lead did not last long, however, as the Bishops tied the game with five runs in the second.
The Pride finished the scoring in the fifth, adding two runs on an error. Matthew Parker contributed a solo home run to make the lead 8-5. Wesleyan added one final run in the eighth but could not climb any closer.
Parker had a game high three of The Pride's ten hits and was followed by Pfeiffer with two. David Schilling earned the save in 6.2 innings of relief of starter Jacob Cadle. Schilling struck out seven hitters and gave up six hits. Grant Kelley finished out the game for the save.
Greensboro moves to 18-11 overall and 4-5 in the USA South. The Pride will wrap-up the two game series with Wesleyan on Sunday at 1 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
